Job Description:

The Department of English and Communications at Norwich University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communications. The typical course load is 4/3 with a 1/1 reduction for serving as advisor to the student newspaper, the Guidon.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching courses in journalism, Introduction to Mass Media, and related subjects. The successful candidate will play a key role in updating and developing the program's curriculum to include digital, multimedia, and narrative journalism and contemporary reporting practices. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary curriculum development with programs including Architecture, Art, Business, Cybersecurity, English, and Criminal Justice. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a strong interest in building collaborations with partners, like these, across the university.

The successful candidate is also expected to serve as advisor to the Guidon newspaper and pursue research and scholarly activity in their area of specialization. Additional responsibilities include advising students, program assessment, and university service.

Requirements:

Minimum qualification includes a Ph.D. in Journalism, Communications, or related field by July 2021; an established record of teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level; professional experience in journalism; and, a commitment to ongoing professional development and service.

Preferred qualifications include professional journalism experience and/or the ability to teach web design and/or UI/UX and other visual media, business communications, and intercultural or interpersonal communications.
