JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Pharmacy Buyer Senior is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day pharmaceutical acquisition process and ensuring that the pharmacy is adequately stocked with needed medications and supplies. The Pharmacy Buyer Senior is accountable for routine purchases, controlled drug purchases, special non-stock purchases, and for searching for supply of needed items even when the item is unavailable from routine vendors. In meeting these responsibilities, the Senior Buyer will incorporate various factors such as product specifications, clinical considerations, product availability, cost reduction strategies and quality assurance as part of purchasing functions. The Pharmacy Buyer Senior resolves purchasing problems and facilitates processes to prevent reoccurrence of inventory problems and meets regulatory needs related to drug recalls and medication shortages. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Purchasing, inventory distribution, record keeping, initiating purchase requisitions, authorizing payment for wholesaler/vendor invoices, maintaining adequate inventory levels, providing inventory action and communication related to shortages, recalls, alternative product sources and selections. Serves as a resource for product and vendor information, as well as group purchasing contracting. Collaborates with hospital departments on medication ordering, inventory, distribution, and 340B and purchasing regulations compliance. Works closely with the Pharmacy Informatics team, Pharmacy leadership and any committees assigned to. Assists in managing Factor Consignment.

EDUCATION:

Associate's Degree in Business or 2 years of college course work or technical school, with emphasis in Business, Economics or similar field, or relevant experience. Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Vermont required.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience with electronic purchasing and pharmacy inventory systems required. Two years of experience with inventory/stocking systems or related business background preferred OR 4 years of experience in pharmacy medication acquisition/distribution.
